The skin consists of 2 layers – the upper one is called epidermis and lower one is called dermis. If due to any reason the dermis is lost or damaged then the body is unable to generate it. The solution for such a problem is dermal transplantation.
What is dermal transplantation?
Dermal transplantation is a procedure which involves transfer of dermis from a hidden area to the site of treatment.
How is It performed?
This process requires the use of local anaesthesia. Dermis is harvested from the buttocks or the outer aspect of thigh and then transplanted onto the recipient site of the same individual. The process typically takes about 2 hours to perform.
